Endorsed by the City of Fremantle, the Fremantle Portrait Prize is expected to become one of Australia's most prestigious photographic portrait awards. Ken Duncan, AOM, is our distinguished patron. The 2012 competition involved the initial submission of digital images during the period 1 May 2012 to 1 August 2012. 696 entries were received from 21 countries. Of these, 641 were accepted as meeting the guidlines specified in the competition's regulations. The 641 portraits were then short-listed by a panel of three independent distinguished judges. The 60 short-listed images were exhibited as prints for final judging in the Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery, Fremantle, followed by an Exhibition of all finalists' prints from 6th to 21st October 2012. This online competition is the final element of the 2012 prize. It seeks to give the wider photographic community across the world the opportunity to select the popular choice (which may be the same as the official judges or completely different). The Fremantle Portrait Prize promotes excellence in the art of portrait photography at the same time as raising funds for the well established charitable organisation, Arthritis and Osteoporosis Western Australia. By participating in the Fremantle Portrait Prize you can help vital work in the prevention and treatment of arthritis which occurs across all age groups, from children to the elderly.Arthritis and Osteoporosis Western Australia will benefit from all proceeds.

In Transit Contest

In Transit – Photo Contest
Website: http://www.kiernangallery.com

Eligibility: Worldwide, 18+
Entry Fee: $25 for images
Journeys are photographed out of windows of speeding vehicles; blurred, voyeuristic, and fleeting. The vehicles themselves are cultural icons and status symbols: sailboats, muscle cars, Harley-Davidsons, and fixed gear bicycles. For In Transit, The Kiernan Gallery seeks images from and of the vehicles that move us.

Awards:
For this exhibition, juror Jock Montgomery will select up to 30 images for display in the main gallery, and up to an additional 40 to be included in the online gallery. All images will be reproduced in an exhibition catalogue available for purchase. A Juror’s Choice and Director’s Choice will also be announced and both winners will receive a free copy of the exhibition catalogue.
Copyright and usage: Artists retain full rights to their work. The Kiernan Gallery requests use of selected images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition and subsequent display as thumbnails on this website.
Deadline: October 26, 2012

Whether by road, sea, rail, air, or other means, vehicles are both essential and ubiquitous in our daily lives. Photographers have documented transportation history, as NASA launched rockets, Ford assembled cars, and the Wright brothers took flight. As modes of transportation, photographers observe the intersections of cultures on public transit and the isolation of solitary commuters on the highway. Modes of transit spawn communities, and photographers have documented biker gangs and houseboats.
